Disable fixed volume in MPD

It seems that the MPD player has been configured to use a fixed (100) volume by default. Although this is of course the best setting regarding SQ would it be possible to add a switch so that this can be switched on/off? I ask this because I am considering buying an amplifier that hasn't a remote control.
